Guzzcavator Operator – Rail Repair Division

Position Summary
SDAC is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Guzzcavator Operator to support rail repair and industrial field operations. This position operates and works with the Guzzcavator, a combination industrial vacuum and hydro-excavation unit used for excavation, debris removal, material recovery, and job-site cleanup.
This is a hands-on field position that requires working safely around active rail lines, moving equipment, and changing job-site conditions.
Responsibilities
Safely operate the Guzzcavator and related vacuum and hydro-excavation equipment.
Perform vacuum excavation, hydro-excavation, debris removal, and material recovery.
Set up and handle hoses, water lines, vacuum tubes, and other equipment.
Support rail repair crews with excavation, track-area cleanup, and removal of dirt, ballast, water, and other materials.
Transport and dispose of collected materials according to project and environmental requirements.
Complete daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance.
Identify and report equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and job-site hazards.
Complete required equipment logs, inspection forms, and other documentation.
Participate in daily job briefings, safety meetings, and required training.
Follow all SDAC, customer, FRA, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
Perform other duties needed to support rail repair operations.
Requirements
Valid Commercial Driver’s License required; Class A CDL preferred.
Previous experience operating a Guzzcavator, vacuum truck, hydrovac truck, industrial vacuum loader, or similar equipment preferred.
Experience in rail repair, construction, utilities, industrial cleaning, or heavy equipment operations preferred.
Able to safely handle heavy hoses, tools, and equipment.
Comfortable working around trains, moving equipment, and active rail operations.
Able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a field crew.
Willing and able to travel and work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime when projects require it.
TWIC card or willingness to obtain one.
OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain it.
MSHA training or willingness to complete it.
Roadway Worker Protection/4RA training or willingness to complete it.
Must meet all company and customer requirements, including applicable background screening and drug testing.
Physical Requirements
Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other changing weather conditions.
Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and work around heavy equipment.
Lift, carry, pull, and position hoses, tools, and job-related materials.
Work in wet, muddy, dusty, noisy, and physically demanding conditions.
Wear required personal protective equipment throughout the workday.
