Overview
Thompson Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with specialized bridge design experience to join our Structural Engineering Team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with a strong background in designing bridges for federal, state, and local government projects.

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety, strength, and integrity of the structures we design. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in AASHTO codes and state transportation design standards, with the ability to lead independent evaluations and adapt technical procedures accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform structural analysis modeling and design, primarily for state and local highway bridges.
- Design other structural systems including:
- Commercial buildings
- Industrial structures (e.g., pipe racks, access platforms)
- Heavy civil foundations, retaining walls, bulkheads, piers, and wharfs
- Interpret and apply state bridge bureau guidelines and specifications.
- Use OpenBridge (LEAP) software for bridge element analysis.
- Select appropriate construction materials to ensure structural durability.
- Prepare technical design reports and client-facing documentation.
- Manage time efficiently across multiple concurrent projects.

Ensure quality deliverables and collaborate with contractors and project managers.

Qualifications

- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of bridge design engineering experience.
- Licensure:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in:
- Structural FEA analysis
- OpenBridge (LEAP)
- MicroStation
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Certifications:
- Not required.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods and operate a computer effectively.
- Travel required to support projects (as needed).
