PBSG is looking for a dynamic person to join our team as an experienced deckhand that is willing to work in the navigable waterways of the Mississippi Valley. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cleaning, chipping, painting, work from heights greater than 6ft, tying line, operating winches. Minimum of two years' experience working in a marine environment is required, winches, along with functions working on the Mississippi River and tributaries along with the Inland Waterways. Perform general labor work onboard a live aboard dredge. This position is required to work in extreme weather conditions including snow, ice, extreme heat, rain, fog, etc. Competitive pay commensurate with experience and an outstanding benefit package which includes health, wellness, dental, vision, Rx, life insurance, and 401k plan to include employer match.
Responsibilities: can include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for housekeeping onboard a dredge
- Handle lines and cables.
- Chipping and painting; and any other support functions.
- Working from heights greater than 6ft.
- Tying lines.
- Operating winches.
- Must maintain the highest level of safety in all aspects of the job
- Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices, identifies and corrects job site hazards immediately.

Qualifications
- Minimum of two years' experience working in a marine environment on the Mississippi River and tributaries.
- Knowledge of marine duties and safety procedures,
- CPR, First AID, CPR, AED training beneficial but not required. PBSG will assist in obtaining this certification.
- Boaters Education Certificate beneficial but not required. PBSG will assist in obtaining this certification.
- A minimum of two years' experience working in a marine environment is required.
- A Minimum of two years' experience in the above responsibilities.
Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following requirements:
- Minimum 2 years' experience chipping and painting marine vessels.
- Minimum 2 years' experience handling lines.
- Minimum 2 years' experience welding
- Minimum 2 years' experience in working with winches.
- Willing to live onboard the Dredge Wallace McGeorge for two weeks on and one week off.
- Do you have the ability and willingness to work 12 hours per day for a total of 84 hours per week?
- Must complete and be deemed Fit for Duty a Functional Capacity Exam (FCU).
- Flexibility and willingness to work extended shift or hours as work and conditions require
- Ability and willingness to do manual labor including lifting items up to 76 pounds
- Must be comfortable working over and adjacent to water
- Ability to swim.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from job location.
- Willingness to live with crew members
- Willingness to work during days or nights.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and do repetitive bending and stooping
- Ability to lift and carry at least 76 lbs. up and down ladders
