The Automation Technician will provide or improve asset and capacity reliability through technical support of the maintenance function, electrical/electronic projects, PLC programming/troubleshooting, and facility's information services.

- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, and control systems.
- Provides troubleshooting utilizing PLC programming and modifications when revised on PLC and HMI programs.
- Assists in design and commissioning of electrical/automation control systems including SCADA, MES, and Plant Networking.
- Discusses malfunction with maintenance technicians to diagnose malfunction using schematics, diagrams, manuals, PLC programs, and appropriate test equipment.
- Properly documents all activities and equipment modifications per maintenance department guidelines.
- Plans and communicates layout of wiring and electrical apparatus in buildings as assigned.
- Researches and lays out special projects as assigned.
- Coordinates with maintenance mechanics to accomplish overall plant maintenance requirements.
- Actively promotes and participates in all continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
- Assists and supports Electrical Engineers and Business Process Automation Engineers with implementation of SCADA, MES, and SPC where applicable.
- Performs other tasks as instructed by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
- Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, circumference, and volume.
- Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra.
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must have knowledge of manufacturing and PLC programming software of multiple platforms required. AutoCAD or other print design software.
- Must be able to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or written instructions.
- Must be able to read blueprints and interpret electrical/electronic schematics.
- Must be able to perform multi-skilled tasks including mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives and advanced electrical controls and automation.
- Must have knowledge of electronic, PLC and electro-hydraulic systems.
- Must have willingness to learn and apply multiple job-related skills and willingness to work in a group environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Electrical Maintenance Certification desirable.
- Siemens PLC, C++, and SQL experience desirable.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
