Brasfield & Gorrie, a leading General Contractor in the Southeast, is searching for an experienced Senior Pipe Detailer to join our expanding Utilities team at our Birmingham, Alabama office. We are in search of a candidate with both field experience and expertise in detailing and drafting. Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned): Create 3D detailed drawings, based on 2D construction documents, for mechanical piping and process piping fabrication Produce detailed piping submittal packages for review and approval by the Engineer Produce detailed construction drawings with accurate and clearly labeled measurements, guides, materials and finish specifications used for installation Responsible for creating requests for information (RFI's), and proposing solutions to those RFI's Interface with designers and engineers, providing feedback, suggestions, and proposed changes Utilize point clouds and 3D computer models to retrofit new pipe and equipment into existing utility systems Regularly communicate with project managers, superintendents, field engineers, vendors, subcontractors and field fabrication/installation personnel to obtain and convey the information needed to complete the technical layout and coordination assignments Order, schedule and track piping materials for projects Perform value engineering evaluation on piping systems Perform clash detection and other required coordination for piping systems and integral process equipment systems Perform project site visits to obtain field measurements
Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or related field is preferred; Or related construction experience
3 years of detailing and drafting experience preferred. 3 years of field experience preferred. Knowledge of mechanical and piping construction methods and system designs, particularly for water /wastewater facilities and industrial industries including knowledge of ductile, carbon steel, stainless steel, and concrete pipe and related accessories Ability to read process mechanical and civil drawings and specifications Understanding of piping/mechanical systems installation Ability to coordinate pipe with other disciplines in a 3D design environment Understanding of most cost-effective pipe routing and equipment location Understanding of piping supports and anchors Ability to understand and apply information given through the submittal process Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Revit and/or other mechanical piping design software Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills Extreme attention to detail and ability to work independently Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively Willingness to learn and adapt to new mechanical piping technologies and practices
