The Process Engineer will be responsible for development of new chemical processes or scaling up existing processes to support nuclear fuel cycle operations such as deconversion and enrichment. The ideal candidate will have experience following engineering processes and procedures and will be knowledgeable in subject areas such as vacuum systems, cryogenics, nuclear chemical processes, compressible flow modeling.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing new processes and designing unit operations for nuclear fuel production facilities. The work may involve laboratory, bench and/or pilot scale operation of test facilities and associated process modeling.
- Accomplishing complex engineering assignments in your specialty. Makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods. May supervise and monitor work with outside consultants and/or AE organizations.
- Preparation and presentation of routine and special reports and summaries on status of projects.
- May be assigned as a team lead for an individual design team which consists of selected professional and technical support staff. These teams may also include members from selected manufacturing and operations groups outside engineering.
- Participate in reviews of technical designs and papers as either the prime presenter or a panel member.
- Preparation of engineering documentation including (but not limited to): reports, design requirements documents, engineering specifications, and other documentation required by the engineering design process.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related fields of study.
- Understanding of unit operation and engineering principles such as thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
- Experience working with engineering design processes and procedures, technical writing, and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of relevant job experience (internships and co-op programs may count toward experience)
- Process design experience in nuclear, chemical, aerospace, or petroleum industries.
- Experience with vacuum, cryogenics, nuclear chemical processes, or compressible flow modeling (e.g. AFT Arrow, ASPEN, etc.).
