Job Summary

The Painter is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic appearance of our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) by applying paint and other finishes to surfaces. This role involves preparing surfaces, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring a high standard of workmanship while adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

- Surface Preparation:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and patching holes or cracks.
- Ensure that surfaces are smooth and free of debris before applying paint.
- Material Selection:
- Select and mix paint colors, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Choose appropriate types of paint and finishes for different surfaces and environments.
- Paint Application:
- Apply paint or other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Ensure even coverage and smooth finishes, taking care to avoid drips or streaks.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications.
- Touch up areas as needed and address any imperfections.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and use protective equipment to prevent exposure to harmful substances.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding the use and disposal of paint materials.
- Collaboration:
- Coordinate with other facilities management staff to schedule and plan painting projects.
- Communicate effectively with facility administrators and other relevant stakeholders.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain an inventory of painting supplies and equipment.
- Replenish supplies as needed and report any equipment issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Project Documentation:
- Keep detailed records of painting projects, including materials used, time spent, and areas covered.
- Provide reports and updates to the Facilities Manager as required.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

- Proven experience as a painter, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of different painting techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and regulations related to painting.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that may require standing, bending, and lifting.

Working Conditions

- Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
- Moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
- Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
- Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
- Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS, COVID-19, and Hepatitis B viruses.
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents’ needs.

Education

Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.

- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
